Today is Buddhist Lent day or ‘Wan Kao Phaansa’, which is the start of a three lunar month period during which monks are required to stay within their temples to study and must adhere particularly strictly to the teachings of the Lord Buddha.
It is also known as the first day of ‘Vassa’, the Theravada rains retreat.
The two main things presented to monks during Kao Phaansa are candles, monks garments & bathing robes.

We went to Wat Luang Pu Supha here in Phuket, which is where the photos below were taken.
